| Three of my employees call themselves “Clampers.” My impression was that they joined a group of other guys who would go camping and drinking a few times a year. They usually go out to the desert to celebrate and have a good time – no women allowed! My only concern was that they arrived on Monday morning all sobered up – which they do. However, there is so much more the Clampers do than just having a fun time. Mike, known as Humbug, this years’ president of the group, educated me regarding the GREAT things this group does for all of San Diego and Imperial Counties. The group is officially: John P. Squibob #1853 A Chapter of the Ancient and Honorable Order of Clampus Vitus Serving the Counties of San Diego and Imperial Preserving & Celebrating the History of the Gold Rush & Western Pioneers This great group of guys have erected over 100 Plaques honoring historical landmarks and local heroes! They design, customize, order the plaques and erect the entire structure the plaques are placed on. The plaques are usually made in the shape of the county being featured. The “Clampers” donate their money, time and labor to honor those landmarks and people that may have been otherwise forgotten.
